In this case, you can install a good 107 mm ZiS-6 gun on the tank, just like on the T-150. But in general, the KV-2 is a cactus that does not necessarily need to be chewed. But it’s better to play with the 107 mm ZiS-6 gun, after all, on the T-150.

For me personally, the KV-2 is a source of extremely unpleasant memories. After the introduction of premium shells for credits, the tank brutally bent on cumulative charges for about six months, but in patch 0.8.6. they were removed. I don’t see any point in rolling the KV-2 with landmines, and even more so with armor-piercing shells.

Of course, this is partially compensated by a long reload, epically long mixing and huge spread, but only partially. In total, at level VI we have a very dynamic heavy tank with a monstrously powerful weapon.

Despite its good dynamics, one should not think that the KV-1S is a medium tank. Compared to real ST, the KV-1S climbs sluggishly, and its visibility is much higher. In addition, with each shot from a top-end 122 mm gun with a muzzle brake, you will signal to your enemies: “That’s where I am!” Shoot at me! At the same time, the speed of movement back causes sadness: get out of the shooting position in reverse oh how difficult!

In the middle and at the bottom of the list, the KV-1S, in terms of game mechanics, rather resembles a turret-mounted tank destroyer, only without the inherent stealth bonus of tank destroyers when stationary. So you need to bend the KV-1S carefully. You should always remember that once at the very bottom of the list, the KV-1S automatically becomes target No. 1 for enemy tanks. He's very dangerous!

The KV-1S is one of the few tanks in the game that I have never sold and have never even thought about selling! This is truly the highlight of the game.

However, it is not at all easy to meet a T-150 in a random store, because unlike the cheerful KV-1S, few people leave it in the hangar.

I have the best memories of the T-150 tank. Even with only a couple of thousand battles behind me, I felt like a real bender on it.

The KV-3, after all, is not the legendary American T95 tank destroyer. After playing on similar tanks, the Soviet heavy KV-3 seems quite comfortable.

I was once completely delighted with the KV-3. If you're willing to sacrifice dynamics for bending, this is the tank for you!

Thus, it is not recommended to place the pike nose on the IS-3 in a diamond shape - this will only make it easier to penetrate. At the same time, from guns with standard Soviet penetration of 175 mm, it can easily penetrate at distances of up to 100 meters. Impenetrable cheat boards, on the contrary, can drive an inexperienced player into a stupor. The trick of the IS-3 and IS-8 is that the fenders are hidden behind the bulwarks, which act as screens, and the sides themselves have a reverse angle of inclination. Therefore, shooting at the fenders is strictly not recommended. Especially from above.

The standard tactics of playing on the IS-3 is to hide the pike nose and tank with a reverse diamond, giving out excellent damage of 390 units per CD. Well, the pike nose helps well at long distances, from which classmates, as a rule, do not penetrate it.

I have only the best memories of playing on the IS-3. The main complaint about this tank is the very small gun depression angle.

In the frontal projection, the IS-3 has no pronounced weak points. Except that the turret can easily penetrate the roof (20 mm) at close range from tall tanks. It is better to shoot at the sides at 90 degrees under the fenders (90 mm) through the tracks. It is better not to shoot at the ricochet tower at all.

It would seem that the IS-3 at level VIII cannot have a competitor, the tank turned out to be painfully bendable. But it seems so only until you pump the super-heavy Soviet KV-4 tank into the top. Fantastic all-round hull armor and a strong turret make this tank very easy to use. In terms of armor, the KV-4 is very similar to another Soviet super-heavy tank - the premium KV-5 tank. And if the KV-5’s main weak point is the machine-gun turret on the tank’s hull, in which an eternally shell-shocked radio operator sits, then the KV-4 has no pronounced weakened zones. Even the machine-gun turret at the top of the turret has up to 180 mm of armor and complex geometry, and therefore does not always penetrate. After patch 0.8.6. and the significantly increased firing accuracy of all tanks, without exception, it became quite easy to target it on the KV-4.

The price to pay for the heavy-duty armor was the low maximum speed and sluggish dynamics. It is, of course, possible to cover up some flank with a KV-4, but in most cases moving to the other flank or returning to base will not be possible to knock down a capture with a KV-4.

The 107 mm ZiS-24 gun mounted on the KV-4 is noticeably inferior to the 122 mm BL-9 gun mounted on the IS-3. Including such an indicator as damage per minute. In addition, the ZiS-24 is a unique weapon that can only be mounted on the KV-4. So, having examined the next ST-1 tank, you will be forced to ride it with the 122 mm D-25T gun, which you inherited from the KV-3. At level seven it looked good, but at level IX it is simply impossible to play normally with the D-25T. The IS-8 is a rather strange Soviet heavy tank. It’s better not to count too much on armor here; Tier IX and X tanks with top-end guns can match IS-8s in all projections. In fact, compared to the IS-3, this tank has more durability, better gun and visibility, and a higher maximum speed. The IS-8 tries very hard to pretend that it is actually a medium tank. However, due to its considerable weight, it drives very sluggishly uphill, and, frankly speaking, things are not going well for the IS-8 with camouflage. The tank is clearly designed for players with arms as straight as sleepers. It will be very, very difficult for other players to play on the IS-8.

But straight-armed players will definitely be pleased with the excellent dynamics and the 122 mm M62-T2 gun, like on the ST-1 and IS-4. The IS-8 is a tank that, due to its excellent dynamics and high maximum speed, can change positions, return to knock down an enemy from its base and move from flank to flank. Well, the 122 mm M62-T2 gun really punishes.

Personally, what I didn’t like most about the IS-8 was the gun that didn’t go down at all. Well, in general, the IS-8 does not in any way correspond to my ideas about what a Soviet heavy tank should be.

The easiest way to pierce a pike's nose is into the lower armor plate (120 mm), if the IS-8 is turned strictly with its muzzle forward, or into the upper armor plate closest to you (120 mm), if the IS-8 is standing in a diamond shape. The sides are easiest to penetrate through the tracks (80 mm), because the fenders are sloped and partially hidden by screens.

What catches your eye when looking at the ST-1? Firstly, the tower is of epic proportions, into which our patient is hit by artillery. Shooting at the sides of a tank in silhouette from tanks and anti-tank guns is also very comfortable. And secondly, the hull of the ST-1 is almost identical to the top Soviet heavy tank IS-4. And indeed, the difference in armor is only 20 mm, and only on the sides. Unlike the IS-8, the ST-1 can be tanked quite successfully by installing a reverse diamond. After all, just like on the IS-4, the sides here are practically impenetrable. But in terms of dynamics and rate of fire, the ST-1 is noticeably inferior to its same-tier comrade from the competing branch of Soviet heavy tanks. In general, for a beginner it will be much easier to play the ST-1 than the IS-8.

In my opinion, the ST-1 is very similar to the IS-4, including in its tactics of use. In World of Tanks, this is truly a real Soviet heavy vehicle, and not a “semi-ST” like the IS-8.

Armor scheme for the ST-1 tank

If ST-1 plays through the tower, you can try to punch him in the cheeks (if, of course, he turns away the tower and turns his cheek). However, this is only possible with top-end guns with large penetration; the armor in the turret cheeks is 220 mm. The body as a whole has no weakened zones.

A very controversial Tier X heavy tank in World of Tanks. When used correctly, it has practically impenetrable frontal armor, and a strange weapon with very weak penetration at its level, long aiming and high one-time damage. With the booking, everything is also ambiguous. On the one hand, there is a strong pike nose, thick fenders and small side screens, and on the other, the thickness of the sides under the fenders is only 100 mm. In general, the tank is very much for everyone, just like the IS-8. Before purchasing, it is strongly recommended to test drive the IS-7 so as not to waste more than 6 thousand silver. However, this is a standard recommendation for all high-level tanks in the game.

After numerous rides on the test server, I decided not to buy the IS-7. I don’t need two top Soviet heavy tanks, and of the two Tier X heavy tanks, I liked the IS-4 better. The one that has a better gun and easier for me personally to use armor.

In the frontal view of the IS-7, it is easiest to penetrate the lower armor plate (150 mm) and the “headlights” on the hull (closer to the place where the upper armor plates turn into the fenders). In these places, the angles of inclination of the upper armor plates are most favorable. The easiest way to penetrate the sides of the IS-7 is through the tracks; behind them the armor thickness is only 100 mm. But it is not recommended to shoot at the fenders.

The IS-4 is perhaps the best heavy tank in the game. An excellent 122 mm M62-T2 gun, familiar to us from the IS-8 and ST-1, but without the nerf to the rate of fire. The hull is excellent, and the sides, lower frontal part and “bill acceptor” have better armor than the upper armor plate. So when tanking on the IS-4, it is recommended to hide your forehead in every possible way, driving towards your opponents in a reverse diamond shape. Weak VLD is perhaps the only drawback of the tank. Pointing forward at enemies, like on the IS-7, is strictly not recommended.

In my opinion, the IS-4 is an excellent tank, for which you wouldn’t mind paying more than 6 thousand credits. If you learn to hide the front of the hull, the IS-4 is simply incredibly oppressive on city maps. A sort of Soviet Mouse.

The main weak points in the IS-4's armor are the top armor plate (140 mm) and the turret roof (30 mm), which can be easily hit in a clinch from a high tank.

While the developers only promise to make it possible to view the armor of tanks in the hangar, modmakers have already done it for them and the result of the work is very impressive.

Since in the game great amount technology and each fighting machine has its own unique reservation scheme, it is quite difficult to remember the weak points of the vehicles. Our current mod, created to analyze tank armor, will help solve this problem. Let's see what data it shows:

  • Armor thickness (actual, excluding angle);
  • given armor;
  • current angle;
  • displaying information about whether it is primary or additional armor;
  • amount of elements.

The mod is very easy to use. After the analyzer is installed, you need to click on the new icon next to the system chat icon in the hangar. The proprietary menu from Protanka will open and there will be an item “Enable armor calculation”. Click on it and almost everything will disappear from the hangar except the selected tank itself. We hover the cursor over any point on the car and see a window appear with information about the reservation. To disable the operation, you need to repeat the previous steps.

The developers have long promised players to add the ability to view armor in the hangar, but update 0.10.0 is coming soon, and there is still no new functionality. The mod makers decided not to wait, but to do everything themselves. The result is an excellent mod that can be recommended to absolutely any tanker. But since the version is still one of the very first, there are small rough edges, for example, if a tank leaves the battle while viewing the armor, then there is a chance that the cursor will disappear and you will have to restart the game. Not too critical, but unpleasant, the authors will definitely fix this problem in the next updates.
