30.05.2019 Trips

The city of Sochi is well known not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders. Picturesque places not spoiled by industrial enterprises, the unique proximity of the sea and mountains make it the best place not only for recreation, but also for sports such as mountaineering, skiing, diving, freestyle and others.

The sights of Sochi (Krasnaya Polyana is their pearl) are, first of all, nature, and only then museums, an arboretum, architecture and other objects of historical value.

Krasnopolyansky District

The Krasnopolyansky district, located in the Adler region, includes several villages located nearby. More than 5,000 people live in this territory, most of which are Russians, Greeks and Estonians.

The district includes various villages.

  • Esto-Sadok - a population of about 900 people.
  • Medoveevka, where only 118 people live.
  • The village of Kepsha with a population of 316 people.
  • Chvizhepse is the smallest settlement in the district - only 60 people.
  • Krasnaya Polyana is inhabited by more than 4,500 people.

The village of Krasnaya Polyana, which is associated with the tourism business, has become the venue for winter Olympic Games 2014. The virgin nature of this district attracts not only athletes, but also ecotourists. The main activity of the residents of the village and nearby villages is serving tourists and athletes.

Hotels in Krasnaya Polyana

A fertile place for tourism is Krasnaya Polyana (Sochi). Attractions (reviews from travelers confirm this) of this district will leave satisfied the most demanding and experienced tourists. Everything is here for have a nice rest: sea, mountains, clean air, excellent service, cozy hotels and recreation centers.

The settlement arose on the site of the old Abkhaz settlements in 1869, and in 1878 more than 30 Greek families who fled from the Turkish invaders moved into it. Today it is a tourist center where people from all over the world have a rest.

Hotels are also peculiar sights of Sochi. Krasnaya Polyana is no exception. Here you can find accommodation for every taste, whim and wallet. For example, the Grand Hotel Polyana, the recreation complex Belarus, the Peak Hotel and other bases offer customers excellent service, comfortable rooms, Turkish baths and saunas, professional massage, billiards, swimming pools and many other entertainments.

Many tourist bases are located in nearby villages, for example, in Esto-Sadok, which is part of the Krasnaya Polyana district (Sochi). Sights (photos show this) include not only ski slopes, restaurants and bars, but also the ruins of the ancient Achipse fortress (7th century), the largest apiary in the area, Mountain Garden, where you can taste fresh honey, and a smaller copy of the Cheops pyramid. Made of wood, this pyramid is a tool to study the effect of its shape on water, people and metals. Anyone can freely enter it and become part of the experiment.

Trinity-Georgievsky Monastery

Troitse-Georgievsky convent belongs to the category "new sights of Sochi". Krasnaya Polyana can be proud of its appearance on its land, as churches where you can pray for dead suicides and unbaptized people, only 3 in Russia.

The monastery was built surrounded by mountains in a very picturesque place on the territory of a closed recreation center. In a clearing around a small pond, there are 4 temples of amazing beauty and residential buildings for nuns and pilgrims.

Monastic churches protect the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and particles of the saints of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and St. Panteleimon, sealed in special capsules.

The Trinity-Georgievsky Monastery was built exclusively with money from donations, and today it accepts all the sick and suffering.

Reservoirs in Krasnaya Polyana

Reservoirs are another attraction of Sochi. Krasnaya Polyana has several unique water sources at once, which are widely known outside the Krasnodar Territory.

Khmelevsky lakes, located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, are part of the Sochi National Park. Since 2012, convenient walking paths and steps have been equipped on their territory, and thrill-seekers are offered a jeep ride along a serpentine road.

The most beautiful view convenient places for tourist camps have made Khmielewskie Lakes a popular destination for ecotourism.

Among the water attractions that the village of Krasnaya Polyana is rich in, mineral springs are especially popular. They are visited by people suffering from infertility and diseases of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Multiple cases of healing, especially by the waters flowing near the villages of Matsesta and Kudepsta, attract those who want to improve their health all year round.

The Brothers waterfall usually has a mesmerizing effect on tourists. Two powerful streams from which it is formed fall from the height of Mount Achishkho, 2000 meters above sea level.

If Krasnaya Polyana (Sochi) is chosen for ecotourism, the attractions in summer in this region are its lakes and springs. For hikers, hikes are organized, during which you can enjoy both great views and the cleanest air, as well as the flora and fauna of these places.

At the very beginning of the 20th century, a palace was built in the village of Krasnaya Polyana - a hunting lodge for the king. It was built in such a way, just in case, if His Majesty suddenly decided to come to these places to hunt rare game. The palace has three floors and is built in the English style. But the sovereign has never been here. And it’s good, because the hunting lodge, according to the description of contemporaries, was not completed. Although, at the same time, the palace was never empty. The king had many relatives, and they often visited Krasnaya Polyana and settled in this palace. The first guests were already here in 1903.

The palace was located in a shady park, on the side of a mountain. The palace terraces offer enchanting views of the surroundings of the Caucasus Mountains and the valley of the Mzymta River flowing nearby. The most frequent visitor to the palace was Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich Romanov, as well as Prince Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg with his father and a large retinue.

In Soviet times, the hunting lodge was a rest home, a youth hostel, later, a rest home of the Ministry of Defense. The post-war appearance of the palace was deplorable, but after a visit in 1949 by I.V. Stalin, the palace was restored. A 900-meter stone path was laid to it, and lampposts of a unique look were installed on the sides. Before the collapse of the USSR, the palace was maintained in proper condition. After the collapse of the palace was abandoned, it began to gradually collapse. Stalin's lampposts were cut down and taken away somewhere. The first, unknown owner, took all the furnishings and decoration of the palace abroad. Now the palace continues to collapse, but you can still see. According to some reports, the last owner of the palace is a well-known lady in Russia. Currently, the Russian Ministry of Defense is negotiating with her about the return of the palace.

House Museum of Anton Hamsen Tammsaare

The Estonian novelist Anton Hansen Tammsaare lived in Krasnaya Polyana from spring to autumn 1912 and was undergoing treatment. More precisely, in a settlement located 2 km from Krasnaya Polyana, called Esto-Sadok. This name was given to it by Estonians - immigrants who came here in 1885. They came to the lands liberated after the Caucasian War. Hardworking and persistent, they not only survived in the mountains, but also mastered the local mountain slopes to grow fruit trees and vegetables. Unlike the Greeks who lived nearby and produced food only for themselves, the Estonians provided food for their families, as well as all vacationers and summer residents from nearby settlements. “Without the Estonians, the food problem in the village was more acute,” said the inhabitants of Krasnaya Polyana.

So Anton Hansen Tammsaare, having fallen ill with tuberculosis, on the advice of a doctor, came to the village of Esto-Sadok, to his countrymen. Over the summer, his health was completely restored, and in 1913, he returned to Estonia. During his treatment, he not only recovered, but also wrote two stories, translated several of Dostoevsky's novels into Estonian, and also collected material for one of his stories. Describing his stay in Esto-Sadok in an essay, he calls this place “a happy corner”.

In the village of Esto-Sadok, Tammsaare lived in the house of the Vaarman family. This house has now been converted into a museum. A large exposition has been collected here, telling about the life, culture and national customs of the Estonians who lived here. The rooms of the museum display kitchen utensils, furniture, clothing, items folk art, musical national instruments and much more.

Museum of local lore "Krasnaya Polyana"

The local history museum "Krasnaya Polyana" was created by pioneers - pathfinders under the leadership of a participant in the Great Patriotic War Boris Dmitrievich Tskhomariya. Coming home after the war, in 1947, he became a geography teacher at a local school. Beginning in 1960, Boris Dmitrievich organized trips of students to the mountains, to the places of battles in the battle for the Caucasus. From these campaigns, the students brought weapons and other things found there. The history of the museum began with these military exhibits.

Now it is a national historical and local history museum. A large number of weapons from the time of the war, personal belongings of the soldiers who fought in these places, photographs and documents of those years are collected here. Relatives of the former surgeon I.D. Chebrikov, who during the war years treated the wounded in the Sochi hospital, donated to the museum the surgeon's scalpel, which performed more than eight thousand operations.

The military gave the museum a decommissioned cannon from the Great Patriotic War, now it stands at the stadium, in the village of Krasnaya Polyana.

The exhibits of the museum in 1985 were presented in Moscow at VDNKh, where the owner of one of them was found. This is a set of notebooks of the military translator Pavel Mikhailovich Rafes. During the tour, the guide began a story about the notebooks of a military translator, when suddenly a man came out of the group and introduced himself, Pavel Mikhailovich Rafes.

In 2012, the organizer of the museum died, but his work, in spite of everything, is continued by his students.

To get from Adler to Krasnaya Polyana, you need to drive along the road that runs along the valley of the Mzymta River. The builders tried their best to smooth the road, but nevertheless, in some places, the river cut the mountains so deeply that a deep canyon formed. This is the deepest gorge in the entire Black Sea Caucasus.

The name of the gorge (Akhtsu) has many different translations- "southern slope", "mountain place", "tooth" or "fang". But there is another, more romantic, "the place where the lightning struck."

20 million years ago, in these places, the formation of the gorge began. The bottom, belonging to the Upper Jurassic period, under the influence of tectonic forces, curved and rose to a kilometer height. In its lime deposits, the Mzymta River paved the way.

At a distance of 34 km from the coast, there is the cramped place in the Akhtsu gorge. The length is about 3 km, the width is from 20 to 30 meters, and the height of the deepest place is about 800 meters. The road is laid along a narrow cornice, on the one hand - the highest sheer cliff, on the other - a cliff into a furiously roaring river. The people called the rock "Save, Lord!". But everything is not so gloomy, because it is very beautiful and majestic. Almost immediately after the gorge, a 100-meter tunnel begins.

Quite recently, in terms of the life of the river, an interesting incident occurred. On January 13, 1968, part of the rock collapsed into the gorge, blocking the way for water. A lake formed at this place, but, gradually, the Mzymta River cleared its way and carried the remains of the rock into the sea.

The surroundings of the gorge are covered with mixed forest, here you can find oaks and beeches, as well as areas with thickets of fir. There are many different animals in the forests. Due to the difficulty of moving through the mountain forests (a very high density of trees), the fauna of these places is well preserved. The Black Sea salmon spawns in the Mzymta River; after spawning, this fish does not die, but returns to the sea. An interesting method of spawning in this species, the female makes a nest in pebbles at the bottom of the river and lays eggs there. Hatched fry go to sea only after two years. Black Sea salmon can reach 25 kg in weight and be over a meter in length.

To visit Krasnaya Polyana and not see the Khmelevsky lakes means to lose a lot. Lakes are located in the mountains, on the eastern side of the Achishkho ridge, but it is possible to reach them. The lakes are located in a basin, between the mountains, at an altitude of 1750 meters. There are several of them, four of them are larger, and the rest are small, overgrown aquatic plants surrounded by virgin forest. Beauty is extraordinary!

The total area of the entire basin is approximately 70 hectares, it is a natural monument and belongs to the Sochi national park. The lakes are fed by rainwater. The water is fresh, low mineralization. The names of the lakes were given by the name of the owner of a nearby plot of land, a member of the Crimean-Caucasian mountain club, V.F. Khmelevsky. He studied and described the flora and fauna around these lakes.

There is a special microclimate here, there is no wind, it is warm and humid. IN in large numbers, on the lakes, various medicinal herbs and shrubs grow. Most of of which is protected by the state and listed in the Red Book, such as: Caucasian kandyk, Colchis needle, saffron, and others. Collecting herbs and plants in the entire area around the lakes is prohibited. Due to the fact that the territory of the Khmelevsky lakes is a protected area, endangered species of animals, Caucasian chamois and lynx can also be found here.

When visiting Khmelevsky lakes, the road passes through the top of the mountain with a mark of 1822 meters. From its height, a unique beauty view of the Caucasus Mountains opens. The lakes can only be reached on foot or by off-road vehicles.

Black Dragon's Mouth Cave

On the way from Adler to the village of Krasnaya Polyana, near the village of Monastery, on opposite side Mhymta River, about one kilometer from the river, there is an interesting a natural phenomenon. In a white stone basin, bordered on all sides by the green velvet of forests, at a height of 265 meters, there is a cave. The official name of the cave is Deep Yar, and among the people it is called the “mouth of the black dragon”. This name was invented to attract tourists, and it has nothing to do with dragons.

The cave is the beginning of the above-ground life of the Deep Yar River, which flows into the Mkhymta. Such a natural phenomenon as the source of a river originating in a cave is a rare phenomenon. The cave is just over 1 km long. Water escaping from the cave formed a small lake 3 meters deep. The water is quite cold, about 5-10 C. Inside the cave there are several waterfalls, but the entrance to the cave is possible only in special equipment. But the natural beauties seen outside the cave, in the canyon, with its calcareous, snow-white rocks, with the blue of the sky and the emerald green of the forests, will be enough for you for a long time.

In general, the upper reaches of the river Deep Yar are replete with sinkholes, albeit small ones, as well as wells.

Ski slopes

Until recently, the village of Krasnaya Polyana was known as an active recreation center to a small circle of people. Now, thanks to the Sochi Olympics, it has become one of the most famous villages in the world. Beautiful hotels and holiday homes have been built here. For lovers of skiing here expanse. Modern, comfortable lifts will take you to the nearby mountain peaks. From these peaks, several trails are prepared for descent. different levels difficulties. The height difference during the descent is about a kilometer, and the length of individual tracks reaches 5 km. All tracks are constantly processed by snowcats. For lovers of night skiing, lighting is installed along the slopes.

All ski equipment can be rented, there are a lot of them in the village. For those who decide to try skiing for the first time, there are trails with a slight slope. In addition to skiing, you can go down from the mountains by parachute, or take a paragliding flight, taking acceleration on the descent intended for these purposes.

Mineral springs

In the village of Krasnaya Polyana and its environs there are many different interesting places where you can not only relax, but also get acquainted with the nature of the village and its gifts. Not far from the village there are several natural springs of mineral water.

Three - four kilometers from the village there is a Chvizhepsinsky spring. This is a Narzan spring, and it is located in the village of Medvezhiy Ugol. Narzan, translated from Abaza - "water-hero". The water rises from a depth of 200 meters and contains many different trace elements. Contained in water carbon dioxide, contributes to its rapid absorption into the human body. There is a belief that if a person plunges into this water, he will acquire the power of the earth.

In addition to the Chvizhepsinsky spring, a few kilometers upstream of the Mzymta, there is a whole “valley of Narzans”, similar in composition to Borjomi and Essentuki. There are 120 of these mineral springs in the valley. Several springs in this “narzan valley” are simply boiling, they are so saturated with CO2. Considering that the valley is located far from settlements, and is surrounded on all sides by forests, you can imagine what kind of air it is. And in the combination of mineral water and healing air lies the best natural healer.

Moving upwards, to the beginning of the Mzymta River, at around 1850 meters, you can see the rarest beauty lake Kardyvach, of glacial origin. Kardyvach is an alpine, protected lake, surrounded on all sides, except for one, by mountains. Its size is 500 meters by 300, the depth is 23 meters. The lake is surrounded by virgin forests consisting of alpine firs. The passage to the reserved lake Kardyvach is strictly limited.

Kudepsta

The cult stone, or it is also called the Circassian stone, is a place that dates back to the era of the megalith, where apparently ancient rituals were carried out. At present, depressions are still visible in the stones, which were used as seats. This place is located in the village itself on the territory of a residential microdistrict.

The small village of Krasnaya Polyana cannot boast of an abundance of attractions. His once glorious heritage was somehow lost either in the Soviet years or during perestroika. Today, Krasnaya Polyana attracts tourists primarily not as a settlement where there is something to see, but as a place where there is something to do.

First of all, this concerns the Rosa Khutor sports skiing complex. The construction of the Olympic facility has become a rather large-scale project, and those who have already tried it can confirm that the Rosa Khutor slopes are world-class and difficult enough to attract athletes with good skiing experience. Very close to Rosa Khutor is the cultural and ethnographic center My Russia. It is fully completed, although not yet fully "lived in" and is a complex of a dozen buildings that, on a reduced scale, copy the most characteristic of different parts Russian buildings. Here you can see, for example, the Kazan Kremlin, the Siberian wooden house or Buryat datsan.

A really old (to put it mildly) and original attraction of Krasnaya Polyana is its dolmens.

Another cultural and entertainment venue in Krasnaya Polyana that deserves a visit is the social and cultural center Galaktika built by Gazprom. First of all, it is interesting for a rather large water park for adults and children. Secondly - billiards, bowling, cinema, several cafes, restaurants and shops. And, finally, a special "chip" of the "Galaxy" is a large children's club, which occupies several floors. The club, united by the theme of space, has a variety of interactive programs and attractions.

If you still want to get to know less modern history Krasnaya Polyana, you should first go to the House-Museum of the writer Tammsaare. The writer was treated in Krasnaya Polyana for tuberculosis and stayed in the ethnic settlement of Estonian settlers Esto-Sadok. The expositions of the house-museum are devoted not only to the work of Tammsaare, but also to the life and life of Estonians in the Caucasus in general. Another, in a certain sense, "ethnic" monument of Krasnaya Polyana is associated with Greek settlers, who, in fact, founded the village. This is the church of St. Harlampy, originally built for the Greek Orthodox parish. True, today's temple is a remake of the 20th-21st centuries, but it still belongs to the community and functions.
